What does root canal treatment involve?
-
1
We start your root canal treatment journey with a consultation. We use dental x-rays to accurately check the root canals of your tooth, making sure there are no signs of infection in the surrounding bone or elsewhere in your mouth. We also create your personalised treatment plan.
-
2
We place a rubber sheet around your tooth to keep it dry during treatment. Using local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable, we carefully remove the infected pulp, before flushing the root canals with an antibacterial solution to clean them.
-
3
We shape the root canals using tiny sterile instruments before washing again to remove any lasting debris. We fill them with a rubber material to prevent bacteria from entering and causing further infection. Your treated tooth is sealed with a permanent filling or dental crown to restore shape and function.
Frequently asked questions
The best way to look after your tooth following endodontic treatment is to keep up with a regular brushing and flossing routine. Root filled teeth are still prone to decay, so need to be cared for properly.
